How to Use a Core Orientator Sheet:
- Align the Sheet: Place the sheet over the core sample, aligning the center of the sheet with the center of the core.
- Identify the Lineation: Locate the linear feature (e.g., a fracture, mineral vein, or bedding plane) that you want to measure.
- Measure the Alpha Angle: This angle measures the orientation of the lineation relative to the core axis. Align the 0-degree line on the sheet with the core axis and read the angle to the lineation.
- Measure the Beta Angle: This angle measures the rotation of the lineation around the core axis. Align the 0-degree line with the top of the core and read the angle to the lineation.
